Frank and Betty Lou Dorfner opened Remnant City in 1970, bringing the very first remnant carpet store to Pittsburgh. Frank was an innovative businessman. To help advertise Remnant City Frank created the Rug Bug, our beloved carpeted Volkswagen beetle.
Though it has had many makeovers through the years, it continues to be a landmark on Route 51. Remnant City continues to be family run by Frank and Betty Lou’s daughters Kim and Lisa. For over 40 years Remnant City has established itself as Pittsburgh’s carpet remnant store. It has grown from just single room sizes to carrying area rugs and whole house installation. In 2011 Remnant City expanded to the North Hills (Wexford, Pa), offering now two convenient locations.
